Fort Christmas
April 13, 2008
This trip was one of the most interesting ones so far. Fort Christmas
is buried off the beaten path and while we had ridden by it several
times we never stopped. The fort dates back to 1837 when the early
settlers were fighting the Seminole Indians. If you've never been it's a
worthwhile trip.

Our rides begin at Dixie Belle’s Café. Coffee follows
us to the table and no menus. We all have favorites, and when the
order gets to the cook with a change; he knows to send the waitress
back to double-check. |
| When the sun came up on Sunday, the sky was gray and
overcast. This group packs raingear with the knowledge that it is
only raining if you can feel it, AND the weatherman always lies. |

We have arrived at Fort Christmas and shutterbug is
in the picture. This means I must be behind the camera for a change!
Fort Christmas got it's name because it was
established on Christmas day in 1837.

| We begin by walking around one of the blockhouses. The
inside of the blockhouses are now filled with historical artifacts. The fort was established on Christmas day, 1837 and abandoned the
following March. |
